Our eduction at Presby continues to grow by leaps and bounds. The word of the day is "fungemia" which means fungus (or yeast) in the blood. You guessed it, my guy's got it! Just a label to put on the fact he has a fungal infection. Treatment remains the same, keep him on the antifungal for 2 weeks.
He had his PICC line removed and another placed in yesterday morning; most likely sight of the fungus evidenced by the fact that after things were "stirred up", he started running a temp (up to 101.9). Today is better and he's been fever-free thus far. They will have an ophthalmologist examine him on Monday since fungal infections often land in the eye.
His white blood cell count is down to 14,000 and his liver and kidney functions both look good. His heart rate and blood pressure have remained stable despite everything.
He will have wound vac changed today (schedule has changed to Tues, Thurs, Sat since they want to be able to change it any time he is in IR under anesthetic which now seems to be on a weekly schedule of Tuesdays).
Internet is back up and running, HOOORRRRAAAAYYYY!
