Twinkie Progress

I know you are most interested in pictures, however, I do have an update from the week. But first, here's a little teaser:

Mila and Mommy

Our girls were graduated to 3B Monday and were also upgraded to feeding by bottle or nursing every other feed while taking the other feed through feeding tube.

Grandma Diane, Stacee's mom, returned to Florida on Wednesday. Ryan and Stacee were extremely grateful for her help, and so happy she was able to hold each of the girls while here. She will be back to help out after the girls have come home and Ryan has returned to work.

Mila, Mommy and Grandma

As of Thursday, Ella and Mila had regained their birth weight, plus some, and now weigh 4 lb 10 oz each. They are fed every 3 hours and on Thursday were upgraded to only having tube feed every third feed; nursing or bottle the other 2 of three.

Mila received her 2nd bath in the tub by Daddy and this time there was no crying! Ryan said she really seemed to enjoy it.

Mommy and Daddy have enjoyed "kangaroo care" holding both girls at the same time.

"Two are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble...

Likewise, two lying close together can keep each other warm. But how can one be warm alone? ...

A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer" Ecclesiastes 4:9-12a New Living Translation

Stacee and Ryan both say the girls are very good. They never cry; just get a little squirmy and fuss a little sometimes when it's time to eat; but most often have to be awakened for feeding.

Ella has had several episodes of heart rate dropping and is still having a little trouble regulating her body temperature but not a huge concern. Part of being a preemie is developing the ability to coordinate all body systems. Hard work for a little girl.

Both girls are doing pretty well with nursing and receive a combination of breast milk and formula to equal @45 ml. They are also spitting up less often.

Ryan had his first week back at work and Stacee was released to drive as of last Thursday. Ryan typically goes by the hospital on his way to work to give one of the girls a bottle; and returns in time for 5 PM feed. Stacee goes up midmorning and stays until 6PM when they have to leave for shift change. Whew!

I'm sure there will be more to report by the end of the weekend; in the meantime, enjoy the pics of Grammie's first time to hold Mila!
